Victor Davis Hanson today offers an eloquent analysis of the current Iraqi situation. His article, When Cynicism Meets Fanaticism: Critiquing the critique of the war in Iraq, lists objections to the war and his rebuttals. It is well worth reading. As I have mentioned before, I regard VDH as one of the premier commentators on the Middle East and the Iraq war. What will be the ultimate outcome? We don't yet know. He concludes his discussion with this question:
. . . put more directly: Can Western enlightenment and power, embedded in deep cynicism, still prevail over ignorance and self-inflicted pathology energized by fanaticism?
In time we will discover the answer.
