I read the news on Drudge a moment ago and felt sad and ill. The last I had heard, Tony Snow was doing better. What a wonderful man! I look forward to reading eulogies that will celebrate this man's life.
Update:
Byron York - "a breath of fresh air"
Shannen Coffin - "To call him a "rock star" was an understatement. He brought substance
to every meeting he was in and every subject he covered... But what struck me most about him was his ceaseless optimism.. He had a smile that lit up a room and could put a friend at ease in an instant...
- Kathryn Jean Lopez refers to a David Gregory interview, and says "I think it's probably impossible not to cry while watching Snow talk about his family — about his love for his children and his wife. . . Tony Snow talks in that interview about "a depth of happiness" that cancer made possible in his life — he became closer to his wife, his family, being forced to think about the eternal things in a new way. .. "God put us on earth to help each other," Snow told Gregory. Consider these days of reflection on the example of Tony Snow as his help to all of us... "When you die, you graduate," Snow told Gregory. Happy Graduation Day.
- Tony Snow's Commencement Address at the Catholic University of America May 12, 2007 - "Reason, Faith Vocation" I consider this one of the finest, wisest, inspiring, humorous, practical commencement speeches I have ever read. Not to be missed!
- Tony wrote an article for Christianity Today in July, 2007 which is also well worth reading. It's titled "Cancer's Unexpected Blessings." (HT: Kathryn Jean Lopez)
In it he wrote the following of a friend (which could have been written of himself as well):
"His gift was to remind everyone around him that even though God doesn't promise us tomorrow, he does promise us eternity—filled with life and love we cannot comprehend—and that one can in the throes of sickness point the rest of us toward timeless truths that will help us weather future storms."
