DAVID HOROWITZ - "OBAMA'S POET LAUREATE IS ... (LET'S FACE IT), DREADFUL, EMBARASSING, A ZERO"

- Update 12/24/08 - Horowitz is not alone in his assessment.  The politically correct Elizabeth Alexander teaches English, African-American literature, and gender studies at Yale.   The "phi beta cons" blog  reports on the extreme vulgarities found in her poetry.  

- (Original post) I've never had a poet's ear, nor an appropriate appreciation of poetry, so I put up this post primarily for a few friends who enjoy poetry and can evaluate poetry better than I.  Horowitz has stuck his neck out with his blisteringly negative assessment of Obama's poet laureate, Elizabeth Alexander.

Her writing is tone deaf, bad prose -- let alone bad poetry -- and teeth grindingly banal.

Of one poem Horowitz quotes in his article, he says:

This is not poetry. It is gobbledygook, and the high honors accorded to Elizabeth Alexander are simply multiple ways of announcing that the academic philistines have prevailed and poetry in America is dead.
