I was going to include the following in a "profile" but decided to put it in a post instead. In case you are wondering where the author of this blog is "coming from," here's the scoop:
I see life through the prism of Christian faith. I am heavily indebted to C.S. Lewis, who once wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” To me, the explanatory power of Christian faith offers the most satisfying intellectual perspective of any philosophy or ideology. Deeper still is
the
extraordinary gift of “belongingness” and “acceptance” which the Lord of Glory
offers to those who come in humility and faith to Him.
“Muddling toward maturity” is something we all do. If your goal is like mine, you wish to see life ever more clearly, and to live in greater harmony with the deepest reality of the universe, revealed to us (I believe) through the pages of the Bible as the one true God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I have a lot to learn, and I am eager to learn from any number of would-be mentors. This blog represents day-to-day musings on politics, sociology, theology, ethics, media, and . . . you name it!
If degrees mean a lot to you (I am ambivalent myself), maybe I should say the following: All my life I’ve been a "generalist.” When in college I sought a broad-based college
degree (social science). I lived
overseas in Asia for several years, and after
earning two seminary degrees (M.A., M.Div), went on for an interdisciplinary Ph.D.
in the humanities. I have taught on the college level and done many other things as well. I know too many excellent self-taught people, and too many foolish Ph.Ds, to be overly impressed with formal degrees!
To all visitors to this blog I say, Welcome! And Shalom!
