I just read Mark Early's Breakpoint column which recounted the heroism of two men riding in Car 1079 on the Washington, D.C. Metro transit train that collided with another Metro train. Then I went to the original Washington Post story written by Eli Saslow: “Three Minutes to Fort Totten” (28 June 2009). It's rare that a newspaper account can be considered "literature," but this story qualifies. It is worth your time to read it. Early points out, rightly, that "worldview" matters. It was Chaplain Bottoms, with two tours in Iraq under his belt, who stayed by the dying. See also Terry Mattingly, “A Chaplain in the Right Place,” (GetReligion, 1 July 2009) who adds journalistic comment.
