The "Candy Cane Case" will be argued tomorrow (Monday, 5/23/11) before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. How important is it? Informed officials say, "This is widely considered one of the most important religious liberty cases in the nation."
What happened? According to the Liberty Institute:
First, they banned eight-year-old Jonathan Morgan from handing out candy canes with Jesus’ name on them to classmates at a school holiday party.
Then they confiscated a little girl’s pencils after school because they mentioned “God.” But that’s not all…
They even banned an entire classroom from writing “Merry Christmas” on cards to our troops serving in Iraq!
Where is this? Plano, Texas. Liberty Institute, along with two former U.S. Solicitors General--Ken Starr and Paul Clement (of Defense of Marriage Act fame)--will go to battle for the rights of American students before all 17 judges on the Court.
