Today I received an email with a link to a YouTube video. "Oh no," I thought. "I don't have 12 minutes to watch a video someone sent me." On the other hand, I knew this person wouldn't send something that would be a waste of time, so I decided I would take a quick look. Result: I sat riveted. This video is well worth anyone's time to view!! Why hadn't I heard of the heroic boat captains rescuing over 500,000 people from lower Manhattan during 9/11? It turns out that this short documentary only recently came out.
As the posted blurb states:
Tom Hanks narrates the epic story of the 9/11 boatlift that evacuated half a million people from the stricken piers and seawalls of Lower Manhattan. Produced and directed by Eddie Rosenstein. Eyepop Productions, Inc.
BOATLIFT was executive produced by Stephen Flynn and Sean Burke and premiered on September 8th at the 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Summit: Remembrance/Renewal/Resilience in Washington. The Summit kicked off a national movement to foster community and national resilience in the face of future crises.
