CHICK-FIL-A PRESIDENT SUPPORTS TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE

Chick-fil-aThe president of Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain with more than 1,600 restaurants and $4 billion in revenue, has come out against same-sex marriage.

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Dan Cathy, the company's president and chief operating officer, said in a recent radio interview. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Dan-Cathy-Chick-fil-AIn an interview with the Baptist Press published this week, Cathy doubled down on his stance against same-sex unions.

"Guilty as charged," Cathy said. "We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

"We know that it might not be popular with everyone," he added, "but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

The company, founded by Dan's father, Truett Cathy, in 1946, has a history of "unapologetic social conservatism," as the Daily Caller put it. All 1,608 of its stores are closed on Sundays, a day of rest for most Christians.

According to Queerty.com, the WinShape Foundation—Chick-fil-A's charitable arm—donated more than $1.1 million between 2003 and 2008 to anti-LGBT groups, doubling that amount to $2 million in 2009.

Earlier this year, students at Northeastern University protested a proposal to put a Chick-fil-A on its Boston campus because of the company's history of supporting anti-gay organizations. The school abandoned its plan.

    The owner has a right to say these things and close his business on Sundays. On the other side, consumers can choose to boycott the restaurant if they disagree strongly enough with the owner. That's the beauty of America.

      Well while Lavitical law is shown in the New Testament to be inferior to the power of salvation by way of faith, mercy and grace. Even Jesus stated that he did not come too destroy, but to fulfill the law. And that in fact Evey dotted I, and crossed T remained. Paul is quite clear in pointing out that the law only served to point out a mans sins. And that it had no power to make that man right before God as does the Blood of Christ. The old law was not banished as a result of Christ dieing for our sins as some are wrongly stating here. It is indeed still in full force and affect spiritually, Just as Jesus said it is. If you wish to be judged under it's force, please feel free to do so. It is a simple matter of dieing unrepentant and without confessing Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Repentance and Faith, the latter of which is a free gift, are all that are necessary to enter into relationship and be made right before God. Please keep in mind though that both are required. Repentance is a change of mind about your sin. You can't claim to be a child of God, and continue unrepentant in your sinfulness. When you join another in marriage,does your new bride allow you to bring your old lovers to bed with you when you enter into intimacy?

      Bearguy, there something called the new testament,,,in it God never codones gay marriage, yet did teach us that we are not to hate our enemies(as in old test) but to love them. So no, it would not be right to follow all of it because of what God has clearly instructed us to do

      Actually wildbillcody, Jesus only replaced the use of sacrafices for the cleansing of sins. Even Jesus said he did not come to change the law, but to fullfill it. You can argue all you wish, just tell that to Sodom and Gamorah

      Robert, that was a fine example of shallow and superficial thinking. You have clearly not put in a lot of time thinking hard about this issue... or any other issue. The fact is that "gay" is not a sexual act... anyone can perform a sexual act with anyone without regard for the genders of the people involved. "Gay" is much more than that... it is the propensity of two persons of the same gender to choose one another even when the choice of a person of the opposite gender is available. It is the ability of one man or woman to fall in love with another person of the same gender, and it is an inborn trait. It is not amenable to "repair" or "rehabilitation," because it is a natural state.

      Julio, you are wrong. Not everyone has the right to marry whomever they love. A person cannot marry immediate family members, ie children or parent, not can someone marry a child under a certain age. So, therefore the govt. can restricy marraige.

    His company. His opinion. His decision to close the restaurants on Sunday. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday as well. Didn't everybody know they are run by conservative Christians? I have no problem with him saying this. It's no surprise, and he has the right and freedom to voice his opinion.

      Jake - I, for one, can assure you that finding another guy sexually attractive has never happened to me. Apparently it does for a select number of others, which is why I stopped having lunch in the local park. There's always a gay guy that wants to know if I'm "looking for a good time". It makes me physically ill.

    Whoa Yahoo.... When I read the headline "Chick Fil A CEO slams gay marriage" I expected that he went on a rant, maybe even threw in some slurs or explicatives. Instead the title should read "CEO chief expresses personal views on marriage". But that wouldn't really get your readers riled up would it Yahoo. So much for the truth.

    The guy is entitled to his opinion ...and he's not shy about putting his money where his mouth is . Those who are offended by his stance can do the same by voting with their feet, and buying their chicken someplace else . I may not agree with him but it's pretty refreshing to have someone tell you exactly how they feel ....instead of mealy mouthing the situation for fear that they're going to miss out on a couple of bucks .

    "Slams".........He stated his opinion, didn't really read a "slam" in his opinion. He's entitled to his opinion just like every one else.

    CEO "slams" gay marriage??? Sounds like he verbalized his feelings against gay marriage, not ranted and raved about it. He is entitled to his opinion, as is everyone in this country. Good for him for expressing it, even if some will call him hateful for it.

    Everyone knows that this country is filled with people who both approve and disapprove of same sex marriages. One guy making his opinion known one way or the other is not a big deal. This is a country where people have the right to think what they want.

    First Amendment to the United States Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

    The president of Chick-fil-A have all his rights under 1st amendment.. "the freedom of speech.." and one that disagree does not have to eat there or boycott the establishment. No harm done..!!
