Although I missed last weekend's live 3 hour Book TV interview with British author and social commentator Melanie Phillips, I am glad to say that it can be accessed in its entirety and I have been able to listen to most of it. She has written some eight books. The one I first became acquainted with was Londonistan. A book I would love to read is her 2011 publication, The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle Over God, Truth and Power (2011) The table of contents looks terrific. She currently writes columns for the London Daily Mail.
Riding the digital wave, she has now become a publisher of e-books [EM: Melanie Phillips Electric Media]. She introduces her new venture here (video).
Why do I like her? She sees the world situation with particular clarity and writes with arresting vigor. It's interesting to me that some of the people who see the world most clearly, and whose judgments I particularly respect, are "diverse" (Jews, Blacks, and Roman Catholics, as well as Protestants), and yet we are united in our understanding of timeless truths, and consequently reject multiculturalism, relativism, leftist coercive utopianism, radical secularism, political correctness, etc) I think, for example, not only of Melanie Phillips (a Jew), Dennis Prager (a Jew), Jay Richards (a Roman Catholic), Thomas Sowell (Black) but many others as well.
I commend to you Melanie Phillips. Latest column: "Welcome to Obamastan"
Another column, "An Elegy for England", I plan to run by some of my British friends for their opinion. I think it spot on.
Previous columns of hers can be accessed here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/columnist-256/Melanie-Phillips.html
